Topic of Presentation: 50ms Service Restoration Mechanism

Language: Polish

Robert Raszuk – Robert Raszuk is part of Juniper Routing Protocol Engineering team. He joined the company in Jan 2007 as Dist. Eng after spending 10 years in Cisco System’s Routing Protocols Deployment and Architecture group. He is author & co-author of over 30 patents & 10 IETF drafts as well as RFCs. His focus has been during last years concentrated on large scale routing (mainly BGP), MPLS and it’s applications. He has over 14 years experience in the computer networking industry and number of very good relations with many key world wide service providers. His main role in Juniper is to provide a very close liaison between key customers and routing engineering team.

Abstract: Packet based transport solutions have arrived at the edge of the network. There is a a couple of contending technologies in the packet domain, most notably Provider based Transport (PBT) and Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS). The missing feature between the legacy transport networks and packet based technologies is to provide restoration capabilities within 50ms. While path oriented solutions like SONET/SDH and PBT provide path restoration capabilities in the order of 50ms they both fail to restore end-to-end services like Pseudo wires, VPLS and VPNs in the order of 50ms. This presentation discusses general requisites for resilient system design. Furthermore a novel MPLS based concept for restoring end-user services within of 50ms after any link or node failure will be illustrated.
