Maria Napierala is a Technology Architect at AT&T Laboratories, since 1994. Her current interests are in areas of large scale IP/MPLS backbone routing, MPLS traffic engineering, multicast, and MPLS applications such as VPNs. Prior to joining AT&T worked as a senior software engineer in Network Routing Systems group at IBM. Maria is an author and a contributor of many IETF drafts and has presented at several international MPLS conferences.

Maria received a M.S. degree in Computer Science from Technical University of Wroclaw, Poland, and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Oregon Graduate Institute, Oregon.

Abstract: Enterprise network migration from legacy services to IP/MPLS VPN has accelerated as a result of surging IP traffic and requirements for more bandwidth, especially with availability of Ethernet transport. The performance, control, agility and security features of MPLS VPN have proven to be dependable, so even sensitive applications like voice and video over IP or real-time market data distribution are now moving to this technology. MPLS VPN service providers are challenged with providing a portfolio of solutions that meet customer needs while differentiating their MPLS offering. As a result, service providers are offering MPLS VPN services that are more dynamic and feature-rich, include support of network-based multicast transmission and network-based flexible routing, and integrate wireless access for mobile and stationary applications. The next generation enterprise networking on a converged service provider’s MPLS backbone will be discussed.
