Topic of Presentation: Implementing QoS Mechanisms in MPLS Networks

Language: Polish

Przemyslaw Misiak Network Technology director at Lumena SA. Considerable participation in a building of IP MPLS Network of a Energis Polska in 2001. As a leading engineer of building IP MPLS Network for the TK Telekom in 2005 and later building of Carrier Ethernet access network. Leading as a leading engineer (I managed project form technical perspectives) in a project of serious modernization of Exatel IP MPLS Network in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 prepared project and implementation of system allowing ISP Sferia to crate advanced Internet services based on a Cisco Service Control Engine.

Managing teem that designing and implementing solution based on MPLS (TE, FRR, Multicast, VPLS) technology for a customers of Lumena SA.

Abstract: Modern IP/MPLS multiservices networks require a very short convergence time and 0.99999 availability. We see that mobile operators require for currently deployed Release 4 networks “IP convergence” much below 1 second (known as subsecond convergence). The same requirements comes from triple play operators, where every, even very short failure means probability of video disturbance. MPLS FRR was a mechanism that used to be deployed in the past but there are places where this mechanism can not be deployed or does not provide expected results. For this reason a number of other mechanism related to pure IP convergence was introduced and at the end causes that it is possible to provide end-to-end convergence much below 1 second. One of them is e.g. “IPoDWDM proactive protection mechanism” that supports recovery in 15 milliseconds (ms) or less – more than three times faster than the industry standard of 50 ms established by SDH networks.

IOS XR, operating system used by CRS-1 and 12k XR routers is extensively developed in this area. The presentation will cover the following mechanism that are available on those platforms like „IGP Fast convergence”, „BGP Prefix Independent Convergence”, „BGP Local Convergence Upon PE-CE Link Failure”, „PIM SSM Convergence for IPTV” and other.

Requirements – knowledge of the following protocols is required IGP, BGP, PIM. Participants are not required to know IOS XR operating system.
